Radioplayer France: we tested the radio Salto

2021-04-08T16:01:42.490Z

200 radios, 600 webradios and more than 100,000 podcasts are accessible in a single application, launched this Thursday.

It took only nine months for radios to give birth to their common platform, where Salto, its televised counterpart, had taken two years to emerge.

Since Thursday, users of smartphones, computers, speakers and connected televisions can download the Radioplayer France application free of charge, which lists no less than 200 radios and 600 webradios - often variations of national antennas - as well as 100,000 podcasts (broadcasts or chronic).

A total that represents more than 90% of the radio audience, according to its leaders.

There are stations of the largest groups (NRJ, Radio France, RTL, RMC, Europe 1…) as well as smaller ones, in particular Les Indés Radios

(Editor's note: a group of 130 antennas)

or locals.

Thus, no matter the place, radios like Swigg, Générations or Tropiques FM are accessible all over France, which the FM band has not allowed until now.

No cost or advertising

By opening the application, everything is done to facilitate the use for the user.

First, he can choose five of his favorite stations from the biggest ones.

Then he is invited to add his location, in order to be able to access those of his region.

However, the larger radios are the most easily accessible.

You have to search through the search engine to get your hands on small antennas.

Different categories (entertainment, culture, religion…) also make it possible to find happiness effectively.

With the flick of a finger, you can listen to NRJ like zapping on RMC, Tropiques FM or even a local Internet radio station, without charge or advertising other than those broadcast on the air.

The program schedule for each radio station is available at a glance, with the possibility of recording a reminder when a show starts or accessing all of its podcasts with a single click.

And for those who arrive along the way, it is expected to be able to restart each program without worry.

Radioplayer offers enhanced features (such as the display of titles and artists played, replay, etc.) and better listening quality - by activating a few settings - especially when on the move.

Finally, the platform promises refined suggestions for each listener, over time, thanks to a dedicated algorithm.

In addition, it is already accessible in "millions of connected cars", and is negotiating with "all manufacturers present on the European market" to be integrated directly into their vehicles, said its managing director Yann Legarson.

Reclaim their content

With this "Radio Salto", announced in July 2020, the giants of the medium intend to revitalize a media in decline.

Directly penalized by the health crisis and travel restrictions, he suffered a loss of two million listeners in one year at the end of 2020, reaching 40.4 million French people every day - including nearly 8 million via digital.

But large groups also want to fully reclaim their content when other applications resume their broadcast or their podcasts, touching a percentage of revenue in the process.

It is thus a question of regaining control of a digital field swallowed up by the giants of the Net (voice assistants, connected speakers, podcast applications ...), and the aggregators (Tune In, Radioline ...) who retransmit their streams. without authorization.

"Controlling the distribution of our signals is a major issue because digital technology risks making us lose direct contact with listeners," said Régis Ravanas, director of RTL.

Because it is now all the stake, to find the public while many bosses are worried with the approach of the publication of the hearings of the first quarter next week.
