At Hamburg's Miniatur Wunderland, the teams of this museum dedicated to scale models have launched a crazy gamble to kill time while

Along a course decorated with complex and tiny landscapes in the colors of cities like Hamburg or Las Vegas, this little train equipped with mallets comes to beat in rhythm the 2,980 glasses of water which mark out the route.

The machine, equipped with microphones, then captures each sound emitted by a glass, to reproduce a melody of Verdi or Ravel ... For weeks, these enthusiasts have thus developed their project, taking care not to omit any detail that would make them lose their bet.

Starting with water.

Because when the 3,000 glasses were placed, filled to the right level, the water was already starting to evaporate.

The notes sounded out of tune and every drop in drop distorted the melody.

The founder of the museum, Frederik Braun and his team had to show ingenuity.

“We looked for solutions.

We first tried with plastic wrap to cover the surface of the glasses.

Then we discovered that a light oil, a very liquid oil - no cooking oil or whatever - was able to create a layer on top while perfectly preserving water, without having to 'evaporation'.

The team also had to make sure that the mallets attached to the train would not break any of the 2,840 wine glasses in order to play without stopping the twenty classical music tunes on the chain.

But the effort was worth it.

Because on March 17, the museum established the first world record for the miniature train capable of playing the longest melody, validated by the Guinness Record.

“This world record is a mega record.

It will not be beaten anytime soon, I'm sure, ”said Frederik Braun, visibly moved.

This is not the first time that the museum has entered the Guinness World Records.

It has the largest model train in the world, with a total track length of 15,715 meters.
