The government "calls" ArcelorMittal to try to calm the controversy and clarify the case of the worker fired for having published a post on Facebook that invited the viewing of the fiction "Wake up my love" on the health and environmental consequences of emissions from a steel mill.

The Minister of Labor Andrea Orlando had a telephone conversation with the CEO of ArcelorMittal, Lucia Morselli, in the afternoon of today, who asked for information on the provision that affected the worker, a technician in support of a group close to an advancement qualification that would have allowed him to become "cost controller" (cost control officer) of the steel mills.

The managing director Morselli, the Ministry said, "has undertaken to provide details on the matter".

And in the evening Arcelor Mittal Italia explained that he had already provided the minister with the explanations requested on the dismissal during the telephone interview.

A statement that Minister Orlando must not have liked very much, so much so that sources from the Ministry of Labor immediately retorted by letting it be known that the dispatch for knowledge of the disciplinary dispute "does not represent and does not exhaust the request for clarification addressed to the management of the company".

Riccardo Cristello, 45, married, with two children, was fired for "just cause" by ArcelorMittal, unlike a colleague who was 'forgiven' after publicly apologizing, because in recent days he had posted a screenshot on Facebook, considered disparaging by the company, which invited the vision of the fiction about the steel plant.

"I - explained the worker - I have only shared one image, as I share a hundred a day. They say that I have offended the company, but they are only conjectures. I was hired on 12 July 2000 and after almost 21 years in the factory I deserved this treatment ".

The television series aired on Canale 5 tells of the struggle of a mother (played by Sabrina Ferilli) who denounces the pollution of a steel factory, holding her responsible for causing the leukemia that struck her little girl.

Cristello had the suspension letter delivered on March 31 and the dismissal letter after 8 days.

"They objected to me - he specifies - a post published on my private profile that I share with my wife, who can only read by our 400 friends".

    Cristello cannot understand what happened.

"I hope this noise - he observes - will make the company retrace its steps to clarify what happened and maybe fix everything. In the event that there should be no developments, through my lawyer I will ask for the revocation of the dismissal and reintegration in the workplace. ".

For Francesca Re David, general secretary of Fiom Cgil and Gianni Venturi, head of steel, the decision of ArcelorMittal "is unacceptable and surreal".

The company, says deputy Dem Michele Bordo, "cannot trample the dignity of workers".

The national coordinator of the Greens Angelo Bonelli has instead announced a statement to the European Union, addressed to Didier Reynders, European Commissioner for Justice, Fundamental Rights and Citizenship.
