Berlin / Braunschweig - Caution: There is a risk of suffocation when consuming certain sweets!

The Federal Office for Consumer Protection and Food Safety (BVL) issues regular warnings about products that endanger consumers.

For months, the authorities have been advising against eating certain jelly sweets.

In the worst case, the sweets can even endanger life, as the BVL has now announced.

Sweets from Asia are primarily affected.

As a reason for the warning, which was first published in August 2020 and has been updated several times since then, the Federal Ministry cites on its portal foodwarnung.de: “Possible risk of suffocation when consuming the mentioned jelly confectionery in mini cups.” The risk exists regardless of the best-before date, insofar the additive carrageenan (E 407) is included.

The jelly sweets still seem to be in circulation a good nine months since the initial warning.

The problem now as it was then: Neither manufacturers nor sales outlets are known - at least the Federal Office for Consumer Protection does not name them.

According to the BVL portal Lebensmittelwarnung.de, the federal states of Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria, Berlin, Bremen, Hamburg, Lower Saxony, North Rhine-Westphalia, Rhineland-Palatinate, Saarland and Schleswig-Holstein are affected.

Sweets lovers should be particularly careful here.

Danger of suffocation with jelly sweets: Consumers must now be aware of this

It is recommended to return sweets affected by a recall or a food warning to the respective consumer outlets.

And of course the sweets should not be consumed under any circumstances.

Jelly products are always the focus of the Federal Office for Consumer Protection and Food Safety.

As early as June 2020, the Federal Office had warned against the following, very similar jelly products in mini cups: “Girl Jelly Fruity Bites”, “Boy Jelly Fruity Bites”, “Fruitery Jelly Assorted Jar”, “Fruitery Jelly Assorted Bag”, “Pentagon Cup Jelly Snack Bag "," Pentagon Cup Taro (Bag) "," Pentagon Cup Taro (Jar) "and" Assorted Jelly Snack "from the manufacturer Tsang Lin Industries Ltd.

Anyone who likes confectionery from Eastern Europe should also pay attention to this recall: According to the manufacturer, there is a risk of carcinogenic substances when consuming a popular type of waffle.
