In France, an Islamist recruited by the alleged mastermind of the November 13 attacks has been sentenced to 14 years in prison.

A Paris court on Friday did not follow the prosecutor's request, who had demanded the maximum sentence of 20 years in the appeal proceedings.

The 35-year-old defendant Reda Hame had been sentenced in the first instance to twelve years in prison - a sentence deemed too lenient by the anti-terrorist prosecutor.

Hame, who was arrested in Paris in August 2015, admitted to having traveled to the Islamic State (IS) jihadist militia in Syria and trained by Abdelhamid Abaaoud, the alleged head of the November 13 attacks.

However, Hame denied having planned an attack.

On November 13, 2015, Islamist attackers killed 130 people in a series of attacks in the French capital.

In a mammoth trial, the Paris anti-terrorist prosecutor wants to indict several suspects who are said to have helped the Islamists at the time.

More than 1,700 civil plaintiffs want to take part in the process.

Most of them are relatives of the victims or survivors.
