The competition for Netflix is growing.
Many broadcasters set up their own streaming services.
Netflix could lose a lot of external content.
Netflix * is one of the top dogs among streaming services.
With the mix of its own successful original productions and well-known films and series from external producers, the company has been able to gain loyal subscribers over the years.
But the latter content reveals the big problem with Netflix: The company has to pay money for the licenses of external productions so that they can continue to be offered.
For this reason, a lot of content regularly disappears from the library - a number of films and series are also affected in April.
The success of streaming is also prompting traditional TV stations to launch their own streaming services - in Germany these include Joyn and TVNOW.
What could still be a problem for Netflix, however, are the US broadcasters and production companies, which are also launching their own VOD offers.
They could claim numerous content exclusively for themselves.
Netflix has to worry: Popular content will soon be permanently removed?
As
Bloomberg
reports, NBCUniversal is considering removing its own films
from streaming portals such as
Netflix or HBO Max and making them available
exclusively on its own
Peacock
platform
.
As a result, the agreed contracts expire at the end of the year.
After that, Netflix and HBO Max are no longer allowed to show content from Universal Pictures if the deals are not extended.
What content is affected?
Netflix users must fear that films from Universal Studios could no longer be offered in the future.
These include the “
Fast and Furious
” series, the “
Jurassic
World
” films and classics such as “
Back to the Future
”, “
Jurassic Park
” or “
Scarface
”.

Decision not yet finalized
According to
Bloomberg
, NBCUniversal
has not yet made a decision
whether to withdraw the productions.
Those responsible are also open to new license agreements.
NBCUniversal will therefore still weigh up whether the lucrative licenses should be dispensed with in favor of its own streaming service Peacock in order to win subscribers with the content.
For Netflix users, there is still hope
that the films will not be completely excluded.
The fact that NBCUniversal is even considering this move adds to an already extremely confusing streaming landscape.
Due to the increasing number of streaming services, the offer is becoming more and more fragmented, so that it is now a game of chance whether users can find the desired content on the subscribed platform.
