(ANSA) - ROME, APRIL 09 - "Final consumption expenditure contracted by 10.9%" in 2020, "bringing the propensity to save to 15.8%" in 2020, almost doubling compared to 8.2% in 2019. Istat communicates it.
"The support measures put in place to counter the economic effects of the health emergency - continues the statistical institute - have mitigated the fall in the available income of consumer families, which in 2020 decreased by 2.8% (-32 billion euros)" .
Purchase power, which is disposable income expressed in real terms, decreased by 2.6% in 2020, interrupting a positive dynamic in place since 2014, six years earlier.
The support measures, together with the contraction in tax and contribution revenues linked to the pandemic crisis, also led to a sharp increase in the net debt of public administrations, which stood at -156.9 billion euros.
This figure on the government deficit worsened by 129 billion compared to the previous year.
