Rapper and hip-hop icon DMX has died at the age of 50.
This was announced by his family in a message.
Accordingly, the musician suffered a heart attack and was pronounced dead on Friday in a clinic north of New York.
"We are deeply sad to announce today that our loved one, DMX, née Earl Simmons, has passed away at the age of 50 at White Plains Hospital with his family by his side," said the message, which several of them said US media consistently reported.
The artist became known with songs like "Ruff Ryders' Anthem" and "Party Up (Up in Here)".
The rapper had spent the last few days in intensive care and was artificially kept alive there.
As the magazine "People" reports, an overdose is said to have been responsible for the heart failure.
