Rapper DMX, whose real name is Earl Simmons, passed away today (Friday) at the age of 50. A statement from his family said: "We are deeply saddened to announce today that our beloved DMX died at White Plains Hospital in New York with his family by his side. ".

The rapper was hospitalized last week due to a heart attack he suffered at his home in New York, his lawyer Murray Richman said in a statement at the time.

"Earl was a warrior who fought until the last minute," the statement said.

"He loved his family with all his heart and we cherish the times we spent with him. Earl's music has inspired countless fans around the world and his iconic legacy will live on forever. We appreciate all the love and support we received during this difficult time. Please respect our privacy, while we We mourn the passing of our brother, our father, our uncles and the man the world knew as DMX. "

The family also announced that it will update on the details of his funeral when its details are clarified.

Simmons burst into consciousness towards the end of the 90s under the stage name DMX, which means Dark Man X. His debut album "It's Dark and Hell is Hot" was released in 1998 and soon marked him as one of the most prominent names in the American rap and hip-hop scene, after their deaths. Of notable rappers like Tupac Shakur and Notorious BIG he is remembered by many due to his hit "Ruff Ryders Anthem", which also brought him the critics' appreciation.

In 1999, the singer released the album "... And Then There Was X", which won him a Grammy Award nomination in the "Best Rap Album" category.

Alongside this he was nominated for a DMX for two more Grammy Awards. 

Over the course of his 20-year career, the musician has recorded eight studio albums that have sold millions of copies.

Other hits identified with it are "Get at Me Dog", "Party Up", "X Gon 'Give It to Ya" and others.

Alongside his successful musical career, Simmons also cultivated a acting career, starring in films such as "Romeo Must Die" and "Two Steps to Death."

In his personal life, the rapper knew quite a few addiction problems and clashes with the law.

In 2017 he pleaded guilty to tax forgery and was sentenced to one year in prison.

In 2019 he announced the cancellation of his planned tour, in order to address the addiction problems he was dealing with.
