The police in Rhineland-Palatinate discovered seven refugees in a truck, several of whom are apparently still minors.

An arrest warrant was issued against the 39-year-old driver for smuggling foreigners, as the public prosecutor in Kaiserslautern announced.

A driver alerted the police on Thursday afternoon.

He reported about a truck on the Autobahn 6 in the direction of Saarbrücken, under whose tarpaulin people kept sticking out their arms and waving to attract attention.

When checking the vehicle, the officers discovered seven refugees on the loading area, the police said.

They said they were from Afghanistan and applied for asylum.

According to initial investigations, these are unaccompanied refugees between the ages of 15 and 20.

The minors were placed in the care of the youth welfare office.

The three adolescents must report to the responsible reception center.

According to the public prosecutor's office, the 39-year-old said he did not know anything about the seven young people in the hold.
