This is the funny and fun way chosen by the Environment and Energy Management Agency (Ademe) and the NATURES association (Nouvelles Agricultures en Territoires Urbains pour le Rassemblement et l'Emancipation Solidaire) of the Pradettes district in Toulouse (Haute-Garonne) to raise public awareness of the importance of the land.

With the operation "Plant your underpants", the idea is to bury underpants about 15 cm deep, flat, then to fill the hole.

Two months later, it is dug up to see what is left of it and to measure the degradation of a natural material by living organisms in the soil.

The more the panty is broken down, the more it means that the soil is alive and well.

“The best is cotton briefs, if possible white and organic, laughs David Fabre, co-president of the NATURES association, who himself has planted briefs in his garden.

Briefs are good because they contain an elastic that does not deteriorate.

We find it when we dig up the garment, unlike organic materials such as cotton.

And the idea of ​​the briefs, it makes fun and it hooks children and families ”.

During an awareness campaign on the Pradettes market on March 20, the association, known in the neighborhood for carrying the project of a major educational farm, distributed around thirty explanatory leaflets on the operation.

The association also provided signs to identify the place of planting, the owner of the underpants and the date of the digging up.

Some families have joined the project by planting their own underpants in their garden.
