In the midst of the so-called
“second wave
” of coronavirus, Argentina
broke a new barrier
.
This Saturday, the Ministry of Health of the Nation reported another 19,419 cases and, thus, the country
exceeded 2.5 million infections.
Although with this report four days in a row were interrupted with a record of infected over 20 thousand, the national territory added more than 19 thousand positives in the last six days.
In addition, the health portfolio
confirmed 297 deaths
, which have already risen to 57,647 since the start of the pandemic.
Compared to Thursday, the average number of daily cases
rose almost 30% this week
(as of Thursday, April 1, the average was 12,162), but 115% in relation to the last 14 days (on March 25 there were 7,337 average cases) .
Taking into account the variables of incidence (number of cases accumulated in the last 14 days per 100,000 inhabitants) and reason (number of cases in the last 14 days versus the number of cases in the previous 14 days), currently, all the provinces except Jujuy and Misiones have at least one of the indicators in red, and the vast majority both.
Another significant data is that the cases of people over 70 years detected are currently less than during other peaks of the curve.
Nighttime traffic checks will last for at least three weeks.
Concern in the health sectors
The private, public and social security subsectors warned in the last hours in a joint statement about the tension faced by the Argentine health system, with an average bed occupancy of more than 69% in the Metropolitan Area of Buenos Aires (AMBA) for "the
vertiginous increase of contagions"
, and requested
"to take more drastic measures
" to reduce this rise.
The document expressed "deep concern" about the tension that the Argentine health system is going through again and "the vertiginous increase in infections throughout the country, but mainly in the Metropolitan Area of Buenos Aires."
"The average occupancy of beds in AMBA reaches 69.2%, when two weeks ago it was 56.5%," said the text, in which it was clarified that these average figures "represent that there are already many health centers per above 90% occupancy ".
The signatories assured that this scenario "demonstrates the accelerated increase in demand that has caused an exponential increase in the occupancy of beds in Intensive Care Units" and warned that "in this dangerous dynamic" the AMBA "emerges as a unique territory where they intensify the transfer of patients from CABA to the Province of Buenos Aires, and vice versa. "
Along these lines, they made a
"call for solidarity and responsibility
to the community to respect the necessary care, reduce trips and contact with other people as much as possible."

They also stressed that coordinated work between the State, the private sector, the social security sector and all jurisdictions is required "to guarantee adequate care and avoid the collapse of the health system."
After clarifying that they accompany the measures adopted by the national government, which represent a starting point to try to stop the cases, they assured that "it is necessary to take more drastic measures to reduce the escalation in transmission quickly and forcefully" and they sentenced that " at this rate there is no health system that can hold out. "
The statement has the signatures of the Ministry of Health of the province of Buenos Aires, IOMA, PAMI, Swiss Medical, OSDE, Osecac, OSPE, Oschoca, Ospica, Fecliba, Aclife, FAPS, Emergencias de Traslados, Emergencias SA, Buenos Aires Call, Union of Public Health, ATE, Cicop, AMRA and UPCN.
