the fourth wave in early autumn
and the extent will depend on how much we vaccinate next summer".
This was stated to ANSA by Ivan Gentile, director of the School of Specialization in Infectious and Tropical Diseases of the Federico II University of Naples and virologist at the II Neapolitan Polyclinic.
"In November and March - he explains - the second and third waves were terrible. For the fourth it will depend on how much we have immunized, if we manage to take advantage of these months we will go better, otherwise we will be full stop, and with the current pace of vaccinations we will not I know if we will be able to curb the fourth wave. We must immediately cover the elderly over 60 and fragile people and yesterday's national ordinance goes in the right direction but doses are needed, at the Polyclinic we vaccinate from January 2, we could also do shifts at night, administer 24 hours a day, but we have no doses and like us all ".
On vaccinations, Gentile explains: "I expected a different pace, but this has to do with the vaccine production cycle and with the contractual system. As a doctor I looked at the stage of vaccine tests as limiting and instead it was very fast, but I expected then to be able to work with more robust numbers. Patents? are a guarantee of a work of genius and in a capitalist system it is right to recognize them, but agreements could be made to share the patent with other companies, perhaps recognizing royalties to those invented the vaccine but by greatly increasing production. We are in a unique moment for humanity and I am amazed that it has not yet been done ".
