A ski tourer fell around 300 meters in the Austrian Schröcken in Vorarlberg - and survived.

He was taken to hospital with injuries.

The 27-year-old slipped on a snow-covered icefall and fell, as the police announced on Sunday.

His companion, who is also 27 years old, reportedly called the emergency doctor.

A helicopter rescued the two from the northwest side of the Juppenspitze in the Vorarlberg region.

Since the 27-year-old's airbag backpack was triggered in the fall and he was wearing a helmet, the accident on Saturday was relatively mild, according to the police.
