Sharing ownership "is not communism, it is pure Christianity".

The Pope said this in the homily of the Mass on the Feast of Divine Mercy.

Commenting on the passage from the Acts of the Apostles which says that "no one considered his property what belonged to him, but among them everything was common", Pope Francis underlined: "The disciples 'merciful' have become merciful".

For them "sharing earthly goods seemed a natural consequence. The text then says that 'none of them was in need'".

Then the Pope launched an appeal: "Let us not remain indifferent. We do not live a faith in half, which receives but does not give, which accepts the gift but does not make itself a gift. We have been 'merciful', we become merciful".

Pope Francis had left the Vatican this morning to celebrate Mass in the church of Santo Spirito in Sassia.

Present at the celebration were a group of inmates and inmates from the Regina Coeli prison, Rebibbia female and Casal del Marmo in Rome, some hospital Sisters of Mercy, a representation of nurses from the Santo Spirito hospital, some people with disabilities, a family of migrants from Argentina, young refugees from Syria, Nigeria and Egypt, including two Egyptian people belonging to the Coptic Church and a Syrian Caritas volunteer belonging to the Syrian Catholic Church.
