In the new week, large parts of Germany have to be prepared for winter weather.
Polar cold air, snow, sleet and values in the single digits are to be expected.
"It remains too cold for the season," said meteorologist Christian Herold from the German Weather Service (DWD) in Offenbach, summarizing the gloomy prospects.
At the same time, he gave little hope for an early recovery - spring-like warmth is therefore not to be expected until next weekend.
On this Sunday, the weather divides Germany in half.
While the south-east can look forward to sunshine at a pleasant 21 degrees, the north-west shivers under thick clouds, heavy rain and temperatures of no more than six degrees Celsius.
For the afternoon almost 20 degrees were expected in Würzburg, in Koblenz, a good 130 kilometers away, the DWD expected just 5 degrees.
In the low mountain ranges it should start snowing in the afternoon.
Frosty nights, cold days
According to the forecast, the polar cold air and with it the snow will gradually move south and south-east as well.
On Monday it can be winter again in the Ore Mountains and the Alps.
In other parts of the country sleet and sleet can be expected.
If you already have plants outside, you should pack them well.
The temperatures usually remain in the single digits during the day and at night.
The DWD expects frosty nights, cold days as well as rain and sleet for the rest of the week.
The continued influx of polar cold air is responsible for this.
This slows down the influence of high pressure.
