A Rewe customer forgot a single product when shopping.

When he saw the second receipt, he was visibly annoyed by its length.

Worms - Whether for the weekly shopping, for the barbecue evening or for a small snack in between: After visiting the supermarket, on the way home you will often find that you have forgotten something.

It was the same for a Rewe customer from Worms.

He turned around for a Gorgonzola cheese and went back to the cash register.

He was amazed at the receipt for the 1.99 euro product.

Annoyed, he then posted the receipt on Twitter.

The reason: After listing the cheese and paying by card, the end was not yet reached.

Instead, three advertisements were lined up one below the other, making the receipt about twice as long as necessary.

The customer apparently even measured it: "A Gorgonzola and 39 cm receipt" he wrote.

Even Rewe employees annoyed with long receipts

According to the Rewe customer, this unnecessary waste of paper is "madness".

As an advocate of sustainability, he also asked the supermarket chain whether this had to be the case.

Other Twitter users also reacted irritably: "Such nonsense" or "completely superfluous", they agreed with the customer in the comments.

One commentator expressed sympathy for the cashiers, who had to endure negative criticism from customers because of the long pieces of paper.

And even a Rewe employee was bothered by the long receipts.

So he explained under the post that he could not influence the advertising on the receipts.

"As a cashier, it is slowly getting on my nerves too," he wrote.

Rewe reacts to customer criticism: "More resource-saving and more targeted than via flyers"

In a similar criticism last year, Rewe spoke up on the subject.

At that time, the company was reproached that the sustainability propagated online was in contradiction to the long receipts.

Rewe replied that in limited campaign periods, promotions and shopping benefits were advertised using the receipts.

"Ultimately, this type of advertising is more resource-efficient and more targeted than via flyers, posters, etc.," says the company.

Furthermore, Rewe referred to the possibility of the “eBon”.

A Payback card can be used to register on the supermarket's website in order to receive an e-mail about the purchase details instead of the paper receipt.

However, the Rewe customer claimed on Twitter that he even had such a card - and still had the invoice printed out.

That's why you shouldn't keep your receipt in your wallet, by the way.

A receipt recently caused confusion at the supermarket chain Aldi Süd.
