Gernot Marx, President of the Intensive Care Medicine Association Divi, warns of high numbers of corona intensive care patients.
"We have to assume that we now have to admit between 50 and 100 new Covid intensive care patients across Germany every day," he told the "Augsburger Allgemeine".
More than 6000 Covid 19 sufferers would be treated in the intensive care units by the end of April.
If the prognosis occurs, it would be a new high: the previous maximum was reached at the beginning of January with more than 5700 patients.
Only a few days ago, 5000 intensive care patients were forecast for the end of April.
In view of the rising corona numbers, the Divi expects a more rapid development.
Marx called on the federal government, the Bundestag and the federal states to adopt the planned federal regulations for regions with a seven-day incidence of over 100 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants this week.
If the law is not passed until the end of April, the number of patients will rise to 7,000.
"We are talking about a great many serious illnesses and about many people who will not survive," said Marx.
