(ANSA) - MOSCOW, APRIL 13 - Alexei Navalny announced that he has sued the administration of the IK-2 penal colony in Pokrov, where he is locked up, because they do not let him read the Koran: the online newspaper Meduza reports it, quoting a message posted on the Instagram profile of the Russian opponent jailed.
Navalny explains that he has decided to "deeply study and understand" the Koran and have taken it to prison along with other books but that the texts are not given to him because they tell him that they must be subjected to checks to verify that they are not extremists.
This verification, according to Navalny, takes three months.
Previously, the dissident had known that of all the books he had been given only the Bible.
"Will you also check the Koran for extremism? It is stupid and illegal!"
writes Navalny, taken up by Meduza.
In the past, Navalny had been criticized for some nationalist comments and for others that - as AFP reports - were considered derisive of immigrants from predominantly Muslim countries of Central Asia.
"I understand that my development as a Christian also requires studying the Qur'an," Navalny wrote.
