Of course, it also played a role in Quentin Tarantino's love letter to the film industry: The Cinerama Dome in Hollywood was one of the few movie theaters in the USA that still has a 70mm projector.

And celluloid fan Tarantino put the cinema in the limelight in "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood".

On Monday, the Pacific Theaters Group announced that it did not want to reopen the cinema with the iconic appearance on Sunset Boulevard.

The same applies to 15 other houses in Los Angeles that had to close during the coronavirus pandemic.

"After we closed our doors more than a year ago, we have to announce the difficult and sad news today that Pacific will not reopen its ArcLight Cinemas and Pacific Theaters locations," said a statement.

The Cinerama Dome was commissioned in 1963 by the founder of Pacific Theaters, William R. Forman, to show state-of-the-art films using three projectors on a specially curved screen.

The dome was the scene of numerous film premieres, for which the concrete dome was also redecorated from time to time.

In 1998 the house was placed under a preservation order.

The news of the closure shocked fans of the cinema.

“Difficult to process this news.

Really devastating, ”tweeted about“ Lord of the Rings ”actor Elijah Wood.

“What sad news.

I loved this theater.

And I had my first premiere there for my first film # StepUp2TheStreets, «wrote director Jon M. Chu.

Others called on movie stars like Tarantino to buy the cinema and save it from closing.
