“Notre-Dame de Paris”, the unpublished story of the Naudet brothers on the fire in the cathedral, Stéphane Bern and Lorànt Deutsch in the footsteps of

DOCUMENTARY.

The day Notre-Dame almost disappeared ...

At 9:15 p.m. on TMC.

Bells ring out in "Le ciel de Paris", hummed by the voice of Yves Montand.

A spring sun shines on the capital on April 15, 2019. The radios send out their news flash, the riverboats slide under the bridges, the tourists congregate on the island of the city, around Notre-Dame.

A day like any other… until 6:20 pm.

It is on these images from before the disaster, as unexpected as it is unthinkable, that "Notre-Dame de Paris" opens, the unpublished documentary broadcast this Tuesday evening on TMC, two days before the sad anniversary of the fire. .

A new film, directed by the Naudet brothers, celebrated for their docuses on the attacks of September 11, 2001 in New York, and of November 13, 2015 in Paris and Saint-Denis.

Accumulating recent testimonies and archive images, the two directors offer a detailed account, almost minute by minute, of the fire.

On the front line, of course, the firefighters.

Like General Gallet, at the head of the firefighters in Paris, and General Gontier, who directs operations, but also Marie-Ange, a young firefighter who went up to the fire for the first time.

Or the story of Lieutenant Alexis, sent in commando to save the north tower and who almost lost his life there.

The mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo, the rector of the cathedral, Patrick Chauvet, the chief architect Philippe Villeneuve also tell, often moved, their amazement, their anxieties and their relief throughout these incredible hours of the rescue.

Strong images, numerous and often poignant testimonies, meticulous production, this “Notre-Dame” is undoubtedly a formidable documentary.

A downside, however.

For those who have already seen "The Battle of Notre-Dame", broadcast on TF 1 in December 2019, it remains without real surprise or novelty, if not in detail.

Or the palace of the King of Rome, whose construction was abandoned with the fall of the Empire in 1814. Despite some lengths, we take pleasure with these technologies to discover the history of the emperor with these crying reconstructions of truth .

.

Stuck in a clearing, a group of teenage boys sees food and a newcomer arriving every month.

The only way to escape: cross a mysterious labyrinth with walls 30 m high and haunted by giant insects with destructive powers.

The arrival of a new visitor, then a first girl, will change everything… Adapted from a successful literary trilogy for teenagers by James Dashner, “The Labyrinth” is posed as the anti “Hunger Games”: a very clever scenario, no gratuitous violence, sumptuous special effects but used sparingly, young actors from successful and very well directed TV series… Above all, the film multiplies the intrigues and surprises, constantly raising the suspense to the point of 'to a staggering finale.

By far the best opus, even if the two suites, released in 2015 and 2018 and that TF 1 will broadcast in the weeks that follow, do not deserve.

Alone in the saddle

In “Raoul Taburin” by Pierre Godeau, Benoît Poelvoorde plays a gifted bicycle repairer who does not know how to ride ... a bicycle!

At 9:10 p.m. on Canal +

.

From a comic strip published by Sempé in 1995, “Raoul Taburin” features, in a small village in the south of France, a gifted bicycle repairer (played by Benoît Poelvoorde).

Who has been hiding a huge secret since his childhood: he doesn't know how to ride a bike!

Even his wife and son ignore the rose garden.

The appearance of a photographer (Edouard Baer) who has come to immortalize the villagers will force him to leave the woods… On a tenuous scenario, the director Pierre Godeau signs an old-fashioned family film, quite slow, but pretty and very tender.

We let ourselves be charmed by this imaginary village of Saint-Céron, where the objects are called like those who sell them (the glasses are “bifailles”, named after Mr. Bifaille, the optician, the ham is “frognard” , and bicycles, of course, are “taburins”…).

We especially enjoy the mischievous interpretation of Benoît Poelvoorde, and the face-to-face meetings between the Belgian actor and Edouard Baer.

The duo's complicity shines through in every shot and offers lovely moments of humor and poetry.

Farewell to Shrek

At 9:05 p.m. on Gulli.

It hung in his face.

After defeating a dragon, seducing a princess, having three children and successfully returning to his beloved swamp, Shrek is bored.

To put some spice back into his life, the ogre signs a pact with a sorcerer, who offers him to become a creature feared by all.

He then finds himself hunted like an animal, far from his family and his friends, the donkey and the Puss in Boots.

Nine years after blasting the 7th art with his saucy re-reading of fairy tales, Shrek takes his bow.

The state of grace of the first and especially of the second part is no longer there, but these ultimate tribulations remain worthy of being among the flagships of animated cinema.
