(ANSA) - MADRID, APRIL 14 - The Spanish prime minister, the socialist Pedro Sánchez, reiterated that the government's "intention" is not to renew the declaration of national alarm for the pandemic - approved by parliament at the end of October 2020 -, which it will expire on May 9th.
He said this in a session to control the work of the government in the Chamber of Deputies.
Sánchez had already announced this goal, although infections have been on the rise for weeks. Some regions and various political groups - both those who support the government and the opposition - have asked him to clarify what will happen next or to reconsider. One of the main problems manifested is that there is a risk that any restrictions decided by governments will not be approved by the courts: these are situations that already occurred before October 2020, when the state of alarm was not yet in force, an instrument that allows the application of measures exceptional.
The Spanish premier says he is counting on the acceleration of the vaccination campaign to counter the spread of the virus and that the regions have "sufficient tools" to apply the appropriate measures. (HANDLE).
