Covid-19 in France: 297 new deaths and 5,902 patients in critical care

The pressure on hospitals is still strong, with 30,868 patients treated due to infection with the Covid-19 virus.

This Wednesday, Public Health France counted 297 new deaths linked to Covid-19, as well as 43,505 new contaminations with the new coronavirus.

These 297 deaths were recorded in hospitals, bringing the total number of victims to more than 99,800 since the start of the epidemic, just over a year ago.

Hospital pressure is still being felt: this Wednesday, Public Health France counted 30,868 Covid patients currently being treated, against 31,226 Tuesday, and 30,904 last Wednesday.

As for serious cases, 5,902 patients are currently in critical care (resuscitation, intensive care, continuous monitoring), against 5,952 Tuesday and 5,729 last Wednesday.

The health authority also recorded 43,505 new infections with the Covid-19 virus this Wednesday, against 39,113 Tuesday, and 12,951 last Wednesday.

A tribute for the victims of the Covid

While the vaccination campaign is accelerating, Public Health France counted 3,982,264 French people on Tuesday who had received their two injections, out of a total of 11,366,175 who had received at least one injection.

As the threshold of 100,000 dead in France approaches, government spokesman Gabriel Attal announced an upcoming “tribute” to the victims of Covid-19.

There will be "obviously this moment of homage and mourning for the Nation", he declared, specifying that President Emmanuel Macron had "already had the opportunity to speak about it in the Councils of Ministers", but without providing a date for a possible national tribute.
