(ANSA) - PARIS, APRIL 14 - The cathedral of Notre-Dame de Paris, devastated by the fire in April two years ago, "will be reopened" in 2024: this is what is assured today by the French Minister of Culture, Roselyne Bachelot, adding that the subscription to raise the necessary funds for the reconstruction made it possible to reach a sum sufficient to complete the construction site.
With donations and promises of donations for a total of 833 million euros, "the sums allow us to calmly tackle this construction site", specified the Minister of Culture, recently protected by Covid-19, during a speech in the Senate in Paris.
"I can tell you that in 2024 the Notre-Dame de Paris cathedral will be reopened," he added.
Tomorrow, exactly two years after the fire, Bachelot will visit the construction site of the Gothic cathedral of one of the fundamental symbols of France and Europe, together with the president, Emmanuel Macron.
At the time of the events, the head of state had called for the building to be rebuilt in five years, in time for the Paris-2024 Olympics.
Even General Jean-Louis Georgelin, who oversees the construction site on behalf of Macron, has guaranteed that Notre Dame will be able to reopen in 2024, with a Te Deum already set for April 16, even if the works will not be completely completed by that date.
