The Buenos Aires teaching unions
UTE and Ademys
began a work stoppage on Wednesday demanding the "temporary suspension of attendance" of classes in the face of the increase in coronavirus infections registered in recent days, while the Buenos Aires union Udocba also called for a measure of force in the province of Buenos Aires.
Clarín
made a tour of about ten schools in the City and found that there was a disparate compliance with the measure of force.
In most of the schools visited, the grades were divided between those who joined the strike and those who continued to teach.
In almost all of them, the amount was distributed around 50% for each side.
However, there are schools that are completely closed, without any classes, or with very few grades teaching.
Matilde, Hanna's mother, who goes to a public school in Villa Pueyrredón, gave off all her anger at the measure imposed by the teaching unions.
"It's a shame. We were without class last year.
The damage they did to the boys is enormous.
Don't they realize that they are essential workers? I understand that they want to take care of themselves, like all of us. But they have the responsibility to teach. If they are not harming the kids. "
"We demand that Horacio Rodríguez Larreta temporarily suspend his presence in CABA. Health and life are a priority," said the Union of Education Workers (UTE-Ctera) in the call for today's strike.
"The
temporary suspension of face-
to-
face classes
in the city of Buenos Aires until this contagion madness stops growing and there are (intensive therapy) beds in the City," the union secretary of Ctera and deputy general secretary of UTE requested on Tuesday. , Eduardo López.
For its part, the Middle and Higher Education Teaching Association (Ademys) said in a statement: "We stopped in the face of the
brutal increase in cases
, the collapse of the health system, the rise in infections in children from 0 to 10 years old, and of the collapse of public transport ".
From that union, they also called at 12 a mobilization in a caravan of cars, from the National Congress to the Pizzurno Palace - headquarters of the Ministry of Education - together with Suteba and other 'multicolored' driving sections.
Ademys also requested the "suspension of face-to-face classes and other non-essential activities, a massive vaccination plan for the entire population, equipment and connectivity for teachers and students, emergency admission for unemployed and / or precarious families, and no dismissed teachers."
To the claims, Ademys added the news of "the terrible death of a young student" by coronavirus: he was 22 years old and was studying at an artistic-oriented school in Almagro.
