A doctor in Bremen suffered a fatal electric shock.
The 53-year-old died after touching the door handle of a practice, the police and fire department announced.
The cause of the incident on Wednesday afternoon is still unclear, according to the information.
The doctor's office has been sealed, experts should investigate the circumstances.
According to the police, a 37-year-old employee of the practice suffered a blow when she touched the handles of two neighboring doors.
The woman fell to the ground in severe pain, but was only slightly injured.
Thereupon the doctor, who had overheard what had happened, apparently also touched both handles.
Resuscitation attempts were unsuccessful, it said.
According to the fire brigade and police, dramatic scenes took place during the operation in a medical and commercial building.
During the resuscitation of the lifeless doctor, a 32-year-old firefighter suffered an electric shock.
He had to be resuscitated and was brought to a clinic with life-threatening injuries.
Children rescued via turntable ladder
In addition, the rescuers had to look after eight children who were in the practice.
According to the fire brigade, the emergency services feared that other doors could be live.
So they saved the children with a turntable ladder over a window from the room in which they were.
In the meantime, they made the children stay away from the door.
Among other things, according to the fire department, the daughter of the deceased doctor was also present in the practice and had to be looked after by an emergency chaplain.
Several other people who were there were also looked after by the emergency services.
