According to the TechCrunch website, cyber attackers are using Facebook ads promoting a fake Clubhouse app for computers to spread malware.

After clicking on the ad, the user is taken to a fake Clubhouse site and when they try to download an alleged computer version of the app, they instead access a file that contains ransomware.

At least nine banners discovered by TechCrunch and reported to Facebook, appeared on the social network between Tuesday and last Thursday.

The company after the report has deleted them as well as removed the associated pages.

It is not the first time that Clubhouse has been used to spread computer viruses, a few weeks ago it also happened with a fake app for Android, a platform on which Clubhouse is not yet present and on which it should land by May.

Clubhouse is currently only available for devices running Apple's iOS operating system and by invitation only.
