Aldi introduces a new revolutionary product.

The promise is great, can it be kept?

Munich - Environmental protection is playing an increasingly important role due to the near-by climate catastrophe on earth.

In recent years, for example, Fridays for Future made the topic big among the general public.

In Germany, the Greens fought their way up behind the Union in the polls and even Markus Söder gave the CSU a more climate-friendly paint job.

The free economy is also changing more and more.

Aldi brings out climate-friendly product

Now Aldi, which recently annoyed its customers with an offer, is also trying to do its part. From April 26th, the discounter will be offering the refillable “Nepenthes” cosmetic bottle in all branches. It took about two years to develop. But what is this new product all about? Aldi writes that you can use the new bottle several times to refill it with soap, shower gel or shampoo, thanks to a screw-off bottom.

The startup Cyclic Design, which Aldi has supported as part of its funding program since 2019, developed the bottle.

“The idea of Cyclic Design won us over from the start.

We are very pleased that we were able to support the two founders on their way to less plastic, ”says Eva Tobor, Director International Buying at ALDI North.

At the same time, the discounter is bringing out a “Hair & Body Shower Concentrate” from its own brand Ombia in a refill pack.

The packaging consists of recyclable mono material.

As a result, less of it should be needed in the application.

Aldi: With the “Nepenthes” bottle you should save up to 60 percent plastic every year

According to Aldi, the "Nepenthes" bottle, together with the refill pack, will save up to 60 percent plastic annually and replace around 20 disposable bottles for cosmetic products.

That would make the product particularly environmentally friendly and practical.

According to the discounter, 95 percent of the ingredients are of natural origin.

Both products should be climate neutral.

The unavoidable emissions that arise in the production process are offset, according to Aldi, by supporting a certified environmental project in Uganda.

The company did not reveal which project is supported, so that the suspicion of greenwashing cannot be ruled out.

Last year, the reaction of an Aldi employee brought tears of anger to a customer's eyes. With our brand new consumer newsletter you will always stay up to date on consumer information and product recalls. (md)
