Singer Montaigne, Australia's representative for the 2021 Eurovision Song Contest, is scheduled to take part in the competition, but will not be present at the event itself, which will take place next month.

The 25-year-old singer will represent her country with the song "Technicolour", but she will not perform in the city of Rotterdam where the gala evening will take place, after it was confirmed that the Australian delegation will not be able to travel to the Netherlands in light of the Corona plague.

Instead, a live recording of the song will be broadcast in the competition.

This type of performance has been recorded by each of the participating countries specifically for such situations, but it seems that at the moment only Australia will use the recording.

"Australia has embraced the spirit of the Eurovision Song Contest for over 35 years, and our love and excitement for the competition has continued to grow since we first took part in Vienna in 2015," said Josh Martin, head of the Australian delegation. "In 2021 Australia will once again take part in the world's biggest song contest, but this time the artist representing us, Montaigne, will perform from home. "This is difficult after taking into account the challenges of the ongoing epidemic, including the many factors associated with flying to the event and returning from there to Australia."

Despite the physical absence from the ceremony, Martin promised that his country would compete like any other country, striving to win.

"True to the Australian spirit, Mountain will still face fearlessly at this year's event, with the bitter and powerful 'Technicolor' anthem, which will surprise and delight Europe and prove to everyone that we are here to win. We are excited to compete again and look forward to presenting Europe the best we have built."

The singer herself also commented and said in a statement on her behalf: "Naturally, I am sad that for two years in a row I was unable to compete in the live Eurovision. Despite the disappointment, it is still a great privilege to participate in the Eurovision for two years in a row. I had the ability to submit two songs. "To people. I'm excited to be able to present 'Technicolor' this year. It's such a beautiful ceremony and even a plague can't stop it. The Eurovision Song Contest will live on forever!"

"Technicolor"

This will be the first time in the long history of the song contest that part of it will be held on Australian soil (even if only technically). Australia joined the list of countries taking part in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2015. It was originally planned to be the continent's one - time event, in celebration of its 60th anniversary, but it eventually became a regular participant. The Australian delegation has since achieved great success in the competition, with the song it sent reaching one of the top ten spots in four of the five years it has participated in the gala broadcast.
