(ANSA) - BRAZIL, APRIL 20 - The Brazilian Supreme Court (Stf) has summoned the President of the Republic, Jair Bolsonaro, to pronounce on presumed pressure he has adopted against some journalists, as claimed by the Brazilian Press Association (Abi).

In his complaint, Abi refers to the "decline of freedom of expression in Brazil", where the government frequently exerts "pressure" against professionals who are subject to legal action for offending the "honor" of the president.

The STF judge, Rosa Weber, asked Bolsonaro to appear within ten days to respond to the appeal filed by Abi, being a case of "extreme delicacy and singular relevance".

According to Weber, guaranteeing the work of the press has "a special meaning for the protection of social order and fundamental guarantees" of the rule of law.

At the beginning of April, the National Federation of Journalists (Fenaj) expressed its "concern" to Congress about the "pressure" suffered by press professionals. According to Fenaj, the government uses the national security law, enacted during the dictatorship, to intimidate the press. (HANDLE).
