Covid-19 in France: 375 new deaths, increase in the number of patients in critical care

The latest figures from the epidemic show that the virus is still circulating strongly in the country, as authorities scrutinize the signs

This is the question that arises every day when reading the daily reports provided by the health authorities.

The government has set a course, to begin a gradual lifting of restrictions from mid-May, and the epidemic figures will necessarily be closely watched when it is time to initiate this detente.

For the moment, however, the pressure remains very strong within French hospitals.

In the last 24 hours, 2,404 new admissions have been recorded in French establishments, bringing the total number of Covid patients treated in hospital to 31,086 patients, against 31,214 on Monday and 31,226 last Tuesday.

5,984 patients in intensive care

Among them, 5,984 suffer from severe forms of the disease which require critical care (resuscitation, intensive care, continuous monitoring).

As a reminder, the number of patients treated in these specialized services was on the rise again on Monday, with 5,970 patients, against 5,893 on Sunday and 5,952 just seven days ago.

With regard to mortality, the health authorities have recorded 375 new deaths in the last 24 hours as a result of the disease. Monday, 449 deaths had been recorded and 140 Sunday. Regarding vaccination, the latest consolidated data show as of April 19 12,999,655 French people having received at least one dose of vaccine. 4,845,217 received their two injections and are considered definitively vaccinated.
