The tricky thing about inflammation of the gums (medically, gingivitis): It usually goes unnoticed for a long time.

Because of this, those affected often only recognize it late and are surprised when the dentist diagnoses inflammation of the gums.

This is usually not painful, but reddened and swollen gums and bleeding gums suggest

an inflammation.

As the portal Gesundheitsinformation.de operated by the Institute for Quality and Efficiency in Health Care (IQWiG) further informs, the gums bleed when brushing your teeth or even without external influence.

Inflammation of the gums: Possible causes of bleeding gums, redness, and swelling

Inflammation of the gums can decrease.

But it can also persist, expand and become periodontitis, as stated on the website of Gesundheitsinformation.de.

But it doesn't have to come to that if you follow a few

simple rules of dental care *

.

Plaque on teeth is believed to be the main cause of inflamed gums.

The film of bacteria is usually located directly at the transition between tooth and gum and can usually be reduced immensely by thorough tooth cleaning, regular check-ups at the dentist and professional tooth cleaning.

But not only plaque, smoking, diabetes or hormonal changes such as during pregnancy can also promote gum inflammation.

A dentist is the best point of contact for any type of dental problem and will

for your needs
