While a definition of

face-to-face classes

is being resolved in Justice and politics

, in the emotions of the students and their parents the resolution has already been made:

virtuality adds family stress

.

This arises from the latest survey of the Applied Social Psychology Observatory, which depends on the Faculty of Psychology of the University of Buenos Aires.

There is also consensus that the measure

will last longer than announced

The survey was conducted among more than 1,200 people from Capital and GBA as soon as Alberto Fernández's announcement was known.

The first thing it shows is

a crack regarding presence yes or no

.

48% of those surveyed said they were against closing schools and returning to virtual mode due to the increase in infections, as decided by the President.

A similar percentage is in favor of virtuality: 44%.

And 8% have no answer.

Regarding

geographic location

, the percentage of disagreement with virtuality is higher in the North of the GBA (61%).

In Capital, 49% are against and 42%, in favor.

Meanwhile, support for virtuality is higher in the South of the GBA (53%) and in the West (46%).

When parents were asked how their children took the interruption of classes,

45% answered that it was very bad

, against 19% who took it very well.

36% believe that their children were not affected.

Parents were also asked about the

fear of contagions

: 53% are not afraid of a family contagion if the children attend school, against 47% who do.

The majority, 69%, consider that health protocols in schools adequately prevent infections.

Another part of the survey asked respondents to identify

a sentiment regarding the new measures

.

Tranquility, anguish, relief, anger and sadness are some of the words that appear.

According to the analysis of the UBA experts, the "spontaneous feelings gathered in the face of the new measures (...) present a configuration clearly divided between negative and positive emotions, almost in equal proportions. The presence of these contrary feelings, in our opinion, it is reflecting

the marked emotional-cognitive rift

that today characterizes much of our society. "

In accordance with this point, the analysts call attention to the

stress that the Zoom adds to families

: 6 out of 10 parents consider that family stress will increase a lot or something.

Only 24% said that this measure will not add tension.

In which there is also quite a consensus, regardless of the opinion regarding virtuality or presence, is in doubting that the measure of suspension of classes

applies only for 15 days

.

Only 15% considered that it is very probable that this is the term, while 85% considered little or not at all probable that the suspension will be lifted in two weeks.

60% consider that the announced measures

will last two months or more

.

Finally, the UBA report investigates the

impact that virtual education and quarantine had

on children and adolescents during 2020.

Of the most significant results, 59% of the parents noticed

negative changes in the mood

of their children due to the restrictions and 56% found them more irritable and 58% more anxious.

For four out of 10 there were negative consequences on their behavior, such as fear of being alone and setbacks in development.

And almost half (48%) noted learning difficulties due to the suspension of face-to-face courses.

An also high percentage of boys (47%) fear the consequences of this crisis on their relationships with their peers and 42% are directly concerned themselves about

the consequences that this pandemic will have on their education

.
