(ANSA) - ROME, APRIL 21 - A lively and dynamic book market, which despite the pandemic in the first three months of 2021 records significant growth, equal to 29.8% for 22.8 million copies of books sold, but in which independent publishers to establish themselves, marking a growth in volume of 34%, therefore higher than the market average: this is what emerges from the research carried out by Adei - Association of Independent Publishers, in collaboration with GfK, on the publishing market data relating to the first 12 weeks of 2021, between 4 January and 28 March.

The research, which for the first time detects in detail the values of independent publishers, broken down by genres and turnover class, and which is based entirely on what has actually been sold, therefore confirms the constant growth trend of the independent segment whose overall value stands at 47 , 3% of the market. Among the aspects not to be underestimated that emerge from the data there is also the economic impact on the sector, following the entry into force on 25 March 2020 of the Nardelli law, which set a maximum ceiling of 5% on discounts (15% for school books ): the discounts practiced by bookstores, large-scale distribution and online retailers in fact fell from the average of 9.5% in 2020 to that of 4.7% in 2021, avoiding the loss of 16.6 million euros, money that therefore remained on the market.
