Covid-19: 79% of French people consider it a priority to vaccinate teachers

The SNES-FSU union is calling for this measure as well as the installation of CO2 sensors in schools.

Unsurprisingly, 79% of French people believe that teachers and teaching staff should be able to be vaccinated as a priority.

This strong majority emerges from an OpinionWay survey for the SNES-FSU union carried out on April 14 and 15 (*), ie less than two weeks before the start of the April 26 school year, face-to-face for all the first degree.

An opinion poll published a few hours from the Defense Council chaired this Wednesday by Emmanuel Macron, during which the modalities of this return must be fixed.

Dedicated vaccination slots have been open since last weekend to teachers over 55 years old.

According to figures from the Directorate-General for Health, this represents only 53,000 school teachers, 122,000 middle and high school teachers, 20,000 accompanying children with disabilities (AESH) and 17,000 specialized school agents. kindergartens (Atsem).

According to the current schedule, the others, under the age of 55, will have to wait until mid-June to be vaccinated.

For 75% of those questioned, it is “too late”.

Should we really reopen on Monday?

Through this opinion survey on "the French and the reopening of schools", the teachers' union wanted to measure the support for its demands, brought for months in the face of health protocols in schools which have often varied, sometimes to lighten up, sometimes to harden. 83% of the people questioned want "a strict protocol for the definition of contact cases" and the closing of the class to break the transmissions from the first contamination. And 73% are in favor of organizing “massive and regular test operations”. As we will remember, it is the multiplication of class closures, in support of the tests carried out in schools, which had led the executive to bring the school holidays forward and to decide on a closing week for the first degree, two for the second.

Five days before the return to class for the youngest, 58% of those questioned do not “tend to trust” or “not at all” in the government to resolve the technical difficulties encountered in early April. On this question, a third of those polled “rather trust” the government. Voices were raised to say the impossibility of reopening next Monday. For Emmanuel Macron, however, there is no question of extending the closure of establishments. “I did not condition the reopening of kindergartens and schools, then colleges and high schools, to health indicators. Why ? Because these three weeks of physical absence from classes are already a major effort, ”the head of state told Le Parisien on April 6. According to the survey,75% of French people are in favor of installing CO2 sensors in establishments to quantify ventilation needs.

(*) Survey carried out on April 14 and 15 via an online questionnaire on a sample of 1,001 people deemed representative.
