Alitalia: 50 million salary savings in the new Covid decree

50 million salary savings for Alitalia arrive

. The government in the Covid decree approved last night by the Council of Ministers - according to what is learned - has inserted an article with which it 'anticipates' a part of the '' refreshments '' provided for in favor of the Italian company for lost earnings for 2020. At the moment the reimbursements related to the 'losses' from Covid for 2020 are estimated at approximately 350 million, 195 million of which have already been endorsed to cover lost earnings up to 30 June last. Of the remainder, 50 million has now been advanced. They will serve as cash for April salaries.

"We have learned from the press about the payment of salaries" of Alitalia by the Italian government and "we have no specific comments on this", but "it is up to the Member States to assess whether a measure involves state aid that must be notified to the Commission on the basis of Community rules ".

Thus a spokeswoman for the EU executive commenting on the government's green light for the new tranche of 50 million refreshments.

"At this stage we cannot make further considerations on the question of economic continuity" between Alitalia and the newco Ita, "we have no conclusive elements in this regard", said a spokeswoman for the EU Commission, indicating that "contacts with the government continue but it is not possible to anticipate the time or the outcome of the negotiation. The spokesperson recalled that, to assess the discontinuity necessary for the EU to take off for Ita, Brussels evaluates "a series of indicators", including "the transfer of assets, their price and timing, the identity of the buyer and the economic logic of the transaction ". The EU antitrust investigations on bridging loans of 900 and 400 million euros granted to Alitalia in 2017 and 2019 "are underway,we are working on it, and we are discussing with the Italian authorities precisely the doubts "concerning" compatibility and the effect on competition ".
