The discovery of
two frozen bodies
on the Cerro El Plata (5,956 meters high) in Mendoza, has intrigued researchers in the province, who suspect that they are two mountain climbers
lost 25 years ago
.
As reported by the Mendoza newspaper
El Sol
, a mountain guide saw them last weekend when he had to take an alternative route to the usual one with a group to reach the top.
They were frozen and, due to their characteristics, it is believed that they have been there for a long time, reported the text signed by journalist
Pablo Montivero
.
One of the clues indicates that they have been frozen there for at least 15 years due to the
makes and models of their equipment
.
The
Mountain Rescue and Assistance Patrol Unit (UPRAM)
of the Mendoza Police took part, explaining to the newspaper
El Sol
that they must plan the best way to get there and then see how to remove the bodies.
Who would be the mountaineers
Another article from the same media delved into the identity of the bodies found and said that the information that the investigators handle indicates that it would be
Leroy Villa
and
Nicolás Ibaceta
.
These two young men from Uspallata were lost in 1996 and since then numerous attempts to find them have failed.
Both Villa and Ibaceta tried to reach the summit in the rock formation located in the
Cordón del Plata
accessing through the south wall, but they were never seen again.
The Cerro El Plata is usually used as a preparation
for later climbing Aconcagua
, the highest in these parts of the world.
That is why there are many stories around it and one of the best known is that of the lost mountaineers in 1996.
Those who work and know about the mountain do not doubt that it is them, since there is no other case of two people who have disappeared together in the place, but there
is
still a
lack of expertise to confirm it
.
