Two young people hijacked a tram in Bremen and drove it around two kilometers through the city.
As the police in the Hanseatic city announced, an 18-year-old and his 13-year-old companion gained access to a parked empty train at a terminus early in the morning.
The older one got behind the wheel and drove off towards the city center.
"The duo interpreted the free use of local public transport a little wrong," the police commented on this action.
According to the information, the 18-year-old made an announcement before the start: "Everyone get on, the train is about to leave."
After about two kilometers, the young people stopped the train and wanted to flee, but were caught by the police, which had meanwhile been alerted.
No one was injured in the action.
According to the police, the 18-year-old is "not a stranger".
They are therefore aiming for "an inter-agency case conference to prevent his further criminal career as soon as possible," it said.
The young man received charges of disrupting public operations, trespassing and driving without a license.
The 13-year-old was handed over to the Bremen child and youth emergency service.
