(ANSA) - BOLZANO, APRIL 23 - In Austria, despite the start of the ski season for residents at Christmas, Covid caused a collapse in turnover for the ski lifts.
The drop is 90%, or more than a billion euros, with a total turnover that stops at just 143.5 million euros, explains the president of the Austrian plant engineers Franz Hoerl to the APA.
In the previous winter, despite the lockdown in March 2020, the turnover still amounted to 1.41 billion euros, with a modest -9% compared to previous winters. The decline is particularly felt in large ski resorts frequented by foreign tourists, while small towns with a local clientele record -50%. As a result, investments in plant modernization will be reduced by 70%, announces Hoerl. The Tyrolean governor Guenther Platter described the opening for residents as "a positive sign for the tourism in Tyrol". (HANDLE).
