(ANSA) - LONDON, APRIL 23 - Contagions from Covid continue to decline in the United Kingdom, after the third national lockdown and a number of vaccines administered which has now reached over 44.5 million. This is confirmed by the weekly data from ONS, the British equivalent of Istat, which as of April 16 reduced the total number of infections recorded on the island to 105,000 (the minimum in months) against 130,000 in the previous seven days: equal to no more than one infection every 610 inhabitants or 0.16 of the population. Meanwhile, the gradual reopening continues in the various nations of the Kingdom, with Northern Ireland being the last to give the green light to barbers and hairdressers.
However, the guard remains high on the variants with the entry into force from today of the announced entry of India into the red list of countries with a high spread of the virus for which an absolute travel ban is envisaged: except for the repatriation of British or Irish citizens, which will be however, required - in addition to the mandatory tests for all travelers - to respect a precautionary quarantine at their own expense of 10 days in supervised hotels.
