But where is electricity consumption most expensive and where is it lower?

Households in Saarland and Schleswig-Holstein are particularly burdened by the annual electricity bill *.

There, high electricity consumption meets high electricity prices.

It is comparatively cheap in Bavaria and Saxony.

This is the result of a current analysis by the comparison

High electricity consumption and high prices: Saarland and Schleswig-Holstein

A three-person household with an annual electricity consumption of 4,000 kWh pays an average of 1,176 euros in Germany.

However, the electricity costs in the individual federal states differ significantly.

This is due to both the local price level and the amount of electricity consumed.

The

Saarland

is the front runner in terms of annual electricity costs.

Both the electricity prices and the average electricity consumption are well above the national average.

The annual electricity costs for a three-person household are around 19 percent above the national average.

This corresponds to additional costs of around 225 euros per year.

In

Schleswig-Holstein

around 12 percent (135 euros) more is paid.

In

Rhineland-Palatinate

, the price level is slightly below the national average, but due to the increased consumption, almost 10 percent more is paid (115 euros).

"The combination of high electricity prices and electricity consumption is a heavy burden for the households concerned," says Thorsten Storck, energy expert at the comparison portal.

“But it also gives you more options for significantly reducing costs.

It is ideal when electricity saving measures are combined with a favorable electricity tariff. "

Bavaria and Saxony have comparatively lower electricity bills

In

Bavaria

, compared to the national average, electricity prices are low and electricity consumption is lower.

The annual electricity costs for a three-person household are 17 percent below the national German average, which corresponds to around 198 euros.

In

Saxony

, the price level is on the national average, but due to the lower consumption, almost 14 percent (162 euros) less is paid, followed by Berlin, where electricity costs 7 percent less (81 euros).

The basis for calculating the prices is the Verivox electricity consumer price index.

It takes into account the price level of the basic supplier and the 30 most important national electricity providers for an annual consumption of 4,000 kWh.

The price weighting is based on the number of households supplied in a region and according to the switching rates published by the Federal Network Agency.

The consumption data is based on the evaluation of the nationwide electricity level, published by the non-profit consulting company co2online gGmbH.

The current analysis is based on consumption data from 290,000 households in Germany.
