Rome's cemeteries are heavily burdened in the corona pandemic.
In some cases, families apparently have to wait weeks or even months for the funerals of deceased relatives.
For example, MP Andrea Romano has publicly complained from the Social Democrats that he has not been able to bury his dead son for two months.
The Ama company, which is responsible for the cemeteries in Rome, said on its renewed request that it could not name a funeral date, Romano told the newspaper "Corriere della Sera" on Friday.
Ama talked her way out of the corona crisis, he criticized.
Romano accused Virginia Raggi, Mayor of the populist five-star movement, of refusing to explain the situation in the cemeteries.
The day before, he had made his case public on Twitter and spoke of a "shame".
Ama is reportedly working on a solution
Raggi said on Thursday evening that what happened to the Romano family and other families was "inexcusable".
Ama has assured her that she will be working on a solution to give the citizens answers at this moment of the corona emergency.
According to media reports, coffins that are intended for burial or cremation have been lined up in Rome's cemeteries for weeks - sometimes in the open air or in refrigerated trucks.
The funeral directors raised awareness of the situation with a protest last week.
According to your information, it should be around 2000 coffins, as the newspaper "La Repubblica" wrote on Friday.
Ama therefore speaks of around 850.
The company initially did not respond to a request.
According to "La Repubblica", Ama speaks of 5,000 additional deaths in the period from October 2020 until now.
The system could not stand it, it was said.
The "Neue Zürcher Zeitung" reported that the crematorium in the Flaminio cemetery was the only one in town.
Of the six ovens, however, two failed.
