The rapper and producer Shock G, who became known in the early 1990s with the hip hop group Digital Underground, is dead. The New York Times reported on Friday.
Bourgeois Gregory Jacobs, Shock G was even more famous as a musician for his appearances as the fictional character Humpty Hump.
Jacobs died at the age of 57.
"Our son, brother and friend, Gregory Jacobs, also known as Shock G, passed away unexpectedly today," said a family statement.
"Nothing is yet known about the cause of death."
Digital Underground celebrated their first successes in 1990 with hits like "The Humpty Dance", in whose music video Gs made his deliberately disturbing, dumb alter ego Humpty Hump debut.
After Tupac Shakur was seen as a dancer in "The Humpty Dance", he briefly rose to become a member of the group before he began his solo career.
Shock G subsequently also worked with Prince, Dr.
Dre, KRS-One and Luniz together.
He released his only solo record "Fear of a Mixed Planet" in 2004. The last album with Digital Underground was released in 2008.
Digital underground founding member Chopmaster J wrote on Instagram about Shock G's death: “Almost exactly on this day 34 years ago we had a crazy idea: We can start a hip-hop band and conquer the world.
That dream eventually became a reality, and reality became a nightmare for some. "His letter ends with the words:" Long live Shock G aka Humpty Hump.
And rest in peace my brother, Greg Jacobs !!! "
