It's hard to believe and quite inconceivable that a few months after launching his new fashion house "AZ Factory"

Albert Elbaz

passed away. Two months before his 60th birthday, she fell ill in Corona, leaving her a legacy of one of the most dominant fashion figures in the world in recent years.

Elbaz was born in Casablanca and immigrated to Israel with his family when he was a baby. After graduating from Shenkar he moved to New York and in 1988 began working in Saint-Laurent. The fashion house associated with it is the French Lanvin, a successful matchmaking that began in 2001 and ended in a pretty ugly breakup in 2015. The cooling-off period until it launched its new brand in 2020 was quite necessary. Elbaz's new spirit at "AZ Factory" focused on processes that take the environment into account, appeal to women in a wide range of sizes (extra small to triple extra large) and temporary clothes that were defined as 'stories' and were not designed to enter the collection stencil.

"I'm excited to be here with you," he said in the same video that launched the brand new.

"I needed some time to fall in love with fashion again. I needed the time to think, to dream."

"This is not my comeback," he added.

"It's not a story about collections or capsules, but of stories. One story at a time."

Well, Elbaz's story has been cut short, and it's still unknown who will head the new brand he founded under the Richmont Group, if at all.

Elbaz is considered a kind, pleasant man and very far from the "diva" label that is affixed with quite a few big names in the industry.

His sensitivity was expressed on several occasions, one of which was when he celebrated a decade with the Lanvin fashion house and launched a book with 3,000 photographs.

Who was in it?

All the staff of the fashion house, where Elbaz made sure that everyone, but everyone will take part, even the cleaners.

The big quotes:

"Fashion is like fruit. You could not eat it yesterday nor tomorrow. It is only today."

"If it's not edible - it's not food. If it's not wearable - it's not fashion."

"Flat lock, you're short. Much cooler not to pretend."

"I can not just give of myself a little. Work a little. It's like you can not be a little pregnant."

"A see-through shirt that reveals a décolleté - it's sexy. But wearing something that exposes everything - is already erotic."

"When you go, look from five different directions. Straight - because you have to look forward. Back - because you remember where you came from. That someone is protecting you. "

Among the many fashion shows and powerful collections he designed for Lanvin, which he always signed in his amusing walk, there was also a dizzying collaboration with the Swedish chain H&M in 2010, which is considered one of the most successful collaborations to date with a large fashion house. The capsule collection was also launched on The runway in Paris, where Anna del Russo walked in. In 2008, Lane designed denim for 'Acne Studios' which later became one of the leading brands on the market, and in what is truly extraordinary not given to every designer - in 2013, in celebration of Disneyland's 20 years, Elbaz designed a royal dress To Minnie Mouse herself.

Social networks are already filling up with heavy posts about Elbaz.

His brand page painted the feed in black squares and wrote: "You taught us to dream, you taught us to think, now you can fly."

Designer Stella McCartney who was a close friend shared: "Albert was a unique light in the world. His immense talent in fashion shone when he broke conventions and wrapped souls in the happiness that wore his works."

Anna Del Russo was also among many in the industry who mourned and wrote: "You were the first person to make me feel like a princess in the fashion world. A talented and brilliant designer with a deep soul and an extraordinary sense of humor. I will miss you."
