Trees, greenery, water, ducks, fish and even nutria ... This idyllic landscape is nevertheless located in the heart of urbanized Marseille, on the banks of the coastal river Huveaune, which has its source in the Massif de la Sainte-Baume and flows near the Prado beaches.
This green lung in the middle of the city will be enlarged and transformed into a “greenway” as far as Aubagne (Bouches-du-Rhône).
The metropolis of Marseille will in fact invest tens of millions of euros to develop over twenty kilometers, along the river, a traffic lane reserved for pedestrians, bicycles and scooters.
This will include linking together parts of already existing routes.
The Huveaune should also be completely replenished and benefit from “ecological restoration” in order to comply by 2027 with European directives on watercourses.
"A place of leisure that can be used as a traffic axis"
"We want to offer alternatives to everyday travel and use this waterway to connect major poles of activity in our territory", explains Martine Vassal, President of the Metropolis, who entrusted the project to the local public company. Soleam.
“It is already today a place of leisure, but it can be used as a traffic axis.

"The redevelopment will include the renaturation of the banks but also an artistic street-art course", announces Lionel Royer-Perreaut, president of the Soleam, who has just completed the study phase.
“It is important for residents to be able to reclaim this river which crosses many highly urbanized neighborhoods.
