More than 1.5 million pupils and students took the exams for the second semester of the transitional grades for the 2020-2021 academic year from the fifth to the eighth grade, and the first and second secondary classes in various branches, amid precautionary and preventive measures against the Coronavirus.

According to a statement of the Ministry of Education, which SANA received a copy of, 1,582,453 pupils and students, of whom 1,283,426 are pupils and students in basic education, 240,261 pupils and students in secondary education and 58,766 pupils and students in vocational education, went to present their exams in about 10550 schools in all governorates, including 8496 schools for basic education There are 1575 secondary schools and 479 vocational schools.

In a statement to SANA's delegate, the director of secondary education at the ministry, Jaafar Nasr, indicated that the ministry has taken all measures to ensure the smooth running of the examination process, including precautionary measures such as daily sterilization, spatial spacing, preparation of lists of students' names and their distribution to classroom classes, with the adoption of a unified examination program in some governorates.

In turn, the Director of Damascus Education, Suleiman Al-Younis, explained in a similar statement that all schools were sterilized during the past two days, noting that with the start of the exams, committees consisting of professional and educational mentors were divided to follow the progress of the examination process, including questions and exam files, preparing halls and distributing students.

For his part, the Director of Idlib Education, Eng. Abdul Hamid Al-Mimar, told a SANA reporter that all necessary measures and arrangements had been taken to make the exams successful in the 61 schools scattered in the liberated countryside, indicating that the number of students applying for the exams reached 1433 students for the basic education stage, the second cycle distributed in 59 schools and 33 Male and female students for secondary education divided into two schools.

Al-Mimar emphasized cleaning and sterilization of all schools before the start of the examinations and forming a health team from the School Health Department to tour schools to monitor the health status of students and deal with any emergency disease.

On the third of April, the Ministry of Education announced the end of the kindergarten stage and grades from the first to the fourth basic, provided that the results of the first semester, along with the work of the second semester, the study and oral work as a criterion for success or failure for these stages.

On April 3, the ministry decided to suspend the duration of basic education classes from the fifth to the eighth grade starting on April 5, limiting the period of examinations from the 25th to the 29th of April for these grades and for the first and second secondary classes in various branches.
