Netflix & Co. at the Oscars: Not everyone likes it
In recent years there has been occasional
criticism of the streaming services' participation in the Oscars
, including from star director Steven Spielberg.
Christopher Nolan also stated in the past that the in-house productions would even destroy the cinema.
The streaming services
tended to benefit from Corona
, while cinema chains worried about their livelihoods.
Numerous filmmakers switched to the video-on-demand platforms because the cinemas around the world were closed or were only able to maintain operations to a very limited extent.
That is why the nominees are mostly films for which the streaming services
only secured
the
distribution
rights after the shooting was finished.
They were therefore not directly involved in the production.
