But there are also enormous differences in the products themselves, a test shows.

Munich - When babies are freshly born, cheese smear prevents the skin from drying out.

If the natural protective film was washed off earlier after the birth, nowadays people usually wait so that the organism can slowly but surely get used to the new environment outside the womb.

But when they take their first bath at the latest, most parents ask themselves which skin care product is the best for their offspring.

Many people are in favor of not allowing any care products to come into contact with baby skin, including, according to reports, a number of midwives.

Opinions are divided on the question, however - many medical professionals consider skin creams for babies to be very necessary, and there is no shortage of preparations on the open market.

Rather, there is a large number of supposedly sensitive care products for newborns - be it shower lotions, bath additives, shampoos or care creams.

There has been a tremendous stir about a certain offer in the past year in view of the danger to health.

Baby care: Ökotest publishes test - two well-known brands disappoint

An updated test by the trade journal "Öko-Test" deals specifically with baby skin creams - and comes to a remarkable result: The skin creams of two well-known brands scored "poor" in the comparison because there are questionable ingredients to one of them Hand to be pointed cancer risk is coming.

The Nivea and Penaten brand products fail the test and have the most negative rating out of 20 participants.

The preparations are Nivea Baby Soft Care (Beiersdorf) and Penaten Care Cream (Johnson & Johnson).

The reason: Mineral oil hydrocarbons (MOAH) were found in both baby care creams in the laboratory, some of which can be carcinogenic.

"Both creams contain paraffins, which are petroleum-based fats that can be contaminated with MOAH," explains the specialist portal.

Tested skin creams for babies: some products without harmful additives

And overall?

The portal rated the fact that 17 baby creams ultimately received the top rating in the test as “pleasing”.

With regard to environmental protection, however, there is another aspect to criticize: the Nivea product and the Beauty Baby face and body cream Sensitiv from the drugstore chain Müller contain synthetic polymers - liquid plastics.

The problem with these substances is that they also get into the environment via rain or sewage, where they break down only with difficulty and over time.

A recent test of glass cleaners also showed this problem.

And which skin cream products for babies can do without silicones, paraffins or polymers?
