After a week that marked the highest level of daily infections since the beginning of the pandemic, the Government confirmed this Monday

18,793 new cases

of coronavirus in Argentina.

In addition, another

443 deaths

were reported

, thus exceeding 62 thousand.

From the daily report published by the Ministry of Health, based on data from the last 24 hours, it appears that for the first time the barrier of 5,000 patients hospitalized for covid-19 in intensive care was surpassed.

This Monday the figure rose to

5,036

.

The level of bed occupancy, according to the official report, is

76.2%

in the AMBA and

67.7%

nationwide, taking all pathologies.

In Argentina, more than 10 million tests for coronavirus have been carried out so far, with a high rate of positivity.

The positivity rate - which measures how many of those tested had the virus - remains high.

It was

27.9%

, out of a total of 67,355 swabs uploaded to the system this Monday.

As has been happening in recent weeks, it is

almost triple

the 10% recommended by the WHO.

There are currently

275,586

people

suffering from

the disease with a confirmed diagnosis in the country.

New cases were registered mainly in the Province of Buenos Aires (8,884), the City (2,854), Santa Fe (1,078), Tucumán (984), Córdoba (968), Mendoza (715) and San Luis (481).

Meanwhile, the majority of reported deaths correspond to Buenos Aires (289), the City (32), Mendoza (19), Santa Fe (18), Córdoba (16) and La Pampa (19).

The second wave

Last week it had closed with an average of

23,824

daily cases, if the data reported by the Government from Monday the 19th and Sunday the 25th are taken into account.

Not only is it the highest record in the entire pandemic, but it also marks an important leap from the numbers of the first wave, since in all of 2020 no day had reached 18,500 positives.

Between Thursday and Friday, two new national records for deaths were registered:

537 and 557

, respectively.

Thus, the 515 reported in October 2020, the peak during the first outbreak of the pandemic, were exceeded.

With 2,879,677 infected and 62,087 deaths, Argentina remains among the

15 countries most affected

since the beginning of the global health crisis, taking into account the accumulated figures.

New restrictions

This Friday the DNU that imposed greater restrictions on the AMBA - the area with the highest number of new infections - expires and the imposition of new limitations is being evaluated to contain the advance of the second wave of covid-19.

This afternoon, Minister Carla Vizzotti and the Chief of Staff lead a meeting with experts.

The national government assumes that new measures will be taken to reduce circulation, but they rule out that this represents a return to phase 1, known as quarantine.

The City anticipated and from this week implemented a new restriction: resolution 021-67 published in the Buenos Aires Official Gazette limits

the practice of collective outdoor sports

to

a maximum of 10 people

.

This Monday the second of the three flights that will bring the third million Sinopharm vaccines, which will be used to complete the immunization schedule for those who have already received the first dose, will arrive in the country.

So far, according to official data, 8,701,508 vaccines have been distributed throughout the country, of which

7,214,704 have

already been applied

: 6,341,959 of them correspond to the first dose and 872,745 to the second.
