The record national player as an international game expert - that seems plausible.
With Lothar Matthäus, RTL has found a successor for Uli Hoeneß as a prominent interlocutor in the field of broadcasts of games of the German national soccer team.
The 60-year-old will be in action in the last test matches of the team of national coach Joachim Löw before the EM in the summer against Denmark (June 2nd) and against Latvia (June 7th), said the Cologne TV broadcaster on Monday.
According to RTL, the contract has been concluded for one year and concerns eleven international matches until May 2022. After the European Championship, RTL will show seven qualifying games for the German team for the World Cup in Qatar 2022 this year.
"As usual, I will accompany the games objectively, but also, if necessary, critically," said Matthäus.
He hoped, added the 1990 world championship captain, that the DFB selection could build on earlier successes.
The 150-time national player Matthäus continues his work as a Bundesliga and Champions League expert for the pay TV broadcaster Sky.
Bayern Munich's honorary president Hoeneß commented on the past three international matches on RTL.
